Additional Commissioner (Traffic) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Munibur Rahman has warned that stern actions will be taken against bus operators charging excessive fares from passengers instead of the fixed rates.
Speaking at DMP’s media center, Munibur Rahman briefed reporters on the traffic department’s preparations for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
He emphasized that during the holy festival, passengers must board and alight buses only within the designated terminals. No passenger will be allowed to embark or disembark outside the terminal premises.
Rahman stressed that public transport vehicles must strictly adhere to the fixed capacity limits.
He also urged operators to avoid carrying passengers on the roofs of vehicles, highlighting the risks to their lives. Additionally, he announced that long-distance buses will be prohibited from picking up or dropping off passengers within the city limits.
Transport authorities, he added, will ensure that all public vehicles meet fitness standards.
Furthermore, Rahman declared that no empty trucks or pickups will be permitted to operate on long routes while carrying passengers.
The DMP’s traffic department will deploy surveillance teams at bus terminals to monitor compliance with these regulations during Eid-ul-Azha.
