Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser of the interim government, has urged Titumir College students to remain calm amid their protests. The students are demanding the college’s separation from Dhaka University and its establishment as an independent university.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Monday evening, Shafiqul Alam said, “To the brothers and sisters of Titumir College, I urge you to stay calm. Discussions regarding the seven colleges are ongoing, and we hope for an imminent resolution.”
Despite the assurance, students of Titumir College staged another protest in front of their campus, blocking roads to press for their demand after no announcement was made regarding the formation of a commission to transition the college into a university.
The protest, which began around 6pm on Monday, disrupted traffic in the area. Earlier in the day, from 11am to 4pm, students also blocked roads and railway tracks in Mohakhali, causing significant disruptions.
