BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday urged party leaders and activists to remain vigilant against any attempts to prevent the people from exercising their voting rights in the upcoming national election.
“We want to make it clear that our goal is to ensure that all 12.5 crore voters in Bangladesh can express their will through the ballot. We must stay alert so that no conspiracy can obstruct this,” he said.
Speaking virtually from London at the biennial council of the Patuakhali District BNP, Tarique warned of growing rumours and whisper campaigns aimed at derailing the electoral process.
“As followers of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, our leaders and activists across the country must remain watchful against such efforts,” he added.
He noted that over the past 17 years, many BNP members have made significant sacrifices—including enduring imprisonment, torture, and even death—to uphold the people’s right to vote. “We must not allow any force to undermine this right. Our awareness and unity are key,” he emphasized.
Tarique also expressed hope of reuniting with party members on Bangladeshi soil in the near future and called on them to avoid any actions that could damage the party’s image.
“Every action that alienates the public affects not just the individual but the entire party. That’s why I urge all BNP leaders and activists across all 64 districts to avoid behaviour that may lead to public dissatisfaction,” he cautioned.
He instructed party members to build public confidence through positive conduct and dedicated service.
“There’s no reason for any of us to engage in behaviour that could harm the party’s standing. If you see any fellow member acting in a way that could damage the party or erode public trust, it is your responsibility to intervene and prevent it,” he said.
As representatives of the country’s largest political party, Tarique reminded members that they must uphold the highest standards and meet public expectations.
He stressed that each BNP member has a duty not only to strengthen democracy but also to ensure that neither they nor their colleagues do anything that could undermine the party’s credibility.
“Let everyone take this message to heart. Today, I entrust every BNP leader and activist with the sacred duty of protecting the party’s honour. No one who harms the party’s image should be shielded or encouraged in any way,” he concluded.
