‘State must take responsibility for journalists during retirement’

Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Muhammad Abdullah said that journalists work for the welfare of the nation and the state. They have played a strong role in all adverse times, including the July-August uprising. The state must take responsibility for them during retirement.
He said these things in his speech as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting organized at the Circuit House auditorium in Sylhet on Thursday to distribute welfare grants to sick and indigent journalists and scholarship checks to journalists’ children.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad, was attended as special guests by Regional Information Officer Md. Akiqur Reza and Sylhet Metropolitan Journalists Union President Mohammad Badruddoza Badar.
The program was hosted by Khaled Ahmed, General Secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Journalists Union.
Stating that if brave decisions are taken in difficult times, then benefits are obtained in time, the Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust said adding that in the last 15 years, all media institutions have been destroyed.
