SpaceX is on track to introduce its Starlink satellite internet service in Bangladesh, with a technical rollout scheduled for May, according to Lauren Dreyer, the company’s Vice President for Global Engagement.
Dreyer met with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on the sidelines of the Earthna Summit in Doha on Wednesday. The meeting centred on finalising a strategic collaboration aimed at delivering high-speed, low-latency satellite internet access across the country.
“This is big news for Bangladesh. People are eagerly awaiting the launch,” said Professor Yunus. “When the moment arrives, it should be marked with celebration.”
Apurba Jahangir, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, confirmed that while a few outstanding technical matters remain, preparations for the launch are progressing smoothly.
Dreyer, a senior SpaceX executive and close associate of Elon Musk, expressed strong confidence in the timeline. “We are very close to the finish line. I’ve instructed my team to be fully prepared for a technical rollout by May,” she stated.
The Starlink initiative is poised to significantly enhance internet accessibility in remote and underserved areas of Bangladesh, with wide-ranging implications for education, healthcare, and commerce.
Discussions are also underway to involve PayPal-a company co-founded by Elon Musk-in supporting secure digital transactions related to Starlink’s services in Bangladesh.
