Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur has said the country’s overall economic condition remains stable, adding that continued political stability will further strengthen economic progress in the coming days.

He made the remarks on Saturday while addressing a regional seminar on MFI–Bank Linkage as chief guest at the Water Garden Resort conference hall in Basail, Tangail.

The event was organised by the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) to enhance collaboration between banks and microfinance institutions, with the goal of ensuring easier access to formal financial services for the rural poor.

Highlighting ongoing efforts to recover money laundered abroad, Dr Mansur said Bangladeshi banks have already appointed legal representatives in the United Kingdom to pursue claims related to funds siphoned out of the country.

“Work is underway to legally establish the claims of various corporate groups. If these efforts succeed, we hope to see positive outcomes soon,” he added.

MRA Executive Vice Chairman Dr Mohammad Helal Uddin chaired the programme. Senior banking officials including Shawkat Ali Khan, Managing Director of Sonali Bank, and Syed Abdul Momen, Additional Managing Director of BRAC Bank, also spoke at the event, emphasising the need for stronger coordination to support grassroots financial inclusion.

The seminar was attended by chairpersons and representatives from several leading NGOs, reflecting a collaborative effort to expand financial access and strengthen rural economic resilience.
