Sports organisers take part in sit-in demanding removal of board directors

After prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled from Bangladesh due to students’ and peoples’ revolution, the sports organisers and sports lovers of the country became excited.

They want the resignation of the high officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the high officials of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).

Senior Vice-President of BFF Abdus Salam Murshedy already submitted his resignation. As part of the movement, the sports organisers and the sports lovers gathered in front of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday.

It may be mentioned that the office of the BCB is situated at the SBNCS.

Former captain of Bangladesh National Football team Aminul Haque, noted sports organiser Rafiqul Islam Babu, sports organiser Tariqul Islam Titu and a good number of sports organisers and sports lovers staged a demonstration in front of the BCB office.

They took part in a sit-in-programme in front of the BCB office demanding the resignation of President of the BCB Nazmul Hassan Papon, Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee of the BCB Jalal Yunus, Chairman of the Age Group Tournament Committee of the BCB and also Director of the BCB Obeid Rashid Nizam and the other Directors of the BCB.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Army have been patrolling outside the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium due to security concern. They were engaged in their duty at the SBNCS on Tuesday too.

Because the Women’s T20 World Cup is knocking at the door. Bangladesh is scheduled to host the Women’s T20 World Cup in October at the SBNCS and at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

If the political situation and the security of Bangladesh will be unrest, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the highest governing body of world cricket will change the venues from Bangladesh.

In that case, the Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in the other Asian countries. So, we expect that the protesters will stage peaceful demonstration and will make success their movement.
