Authorities are currently interrogating Kafi in connection with these charges.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested Kafi from Dhaka Airport on 2 September.

Investigators allege that he is the mastermind behind the burning of the bodies, a claim supported by video footage of the incident that has gone viral on social media platforms, particularly Facebook. The footage has sparked widespread criticism and condemnation.

The tragic events in Ashulia, which occurred on 4 and 5 August during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, saw at least 16 people killed and hundreds injured in clashes between police forces and members of the Bangladesh Chhatra League.

The movement, which had gained momentum since 16 July, resulted in significant unrest across the country. The escalating violence culminated in the government’s fall on 5 August.

Unofficial estimates suggest that at least 1,000 people have died in the violence during this period.
