The Bangladesh Army has reiterated its firm stance on national security, affirming that there is no conflict with the interim government. It remains resolutely uncompromising when it comes to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and interests.

The statement was made during a press briefing held at the Army Headquarters, where the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate addressed current developments concerning national defence and internal security.

Speaking at the briefing, Brig Gen Md Nazim-ud-Daula, director of the Military Operations Directorate (MOD) of the Army, said, “This is our country.

Its welfare and sovereignty are deeply connected to all of us. If we want to keep this country safe, we have to do it ourselves. And if anything goes wrong, we are equally responsible for that too.”

He urged journalists not to misinterpret ongoing discussions regarding the government-military relationship.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Shafiqul Islam, also speaking at the briefing, stressed that the army remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the nation’s sovereignty and security, particularly concerning sensitive regions such as the strategic corridor.

According to ISPR, the army will not compromise on border security or engage in any activities that could endanger national interests. It also clarified that the Bangladesh Army has no direct communication with the Arakan Army, a regional armed group.

Commenting on the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), the army expressed serious concern over reports of 30,000 uniforms allegedly produced for the group. The matter is being closely monitored.

“The Bangladesh Army is operating in full coordination with all concerned authorities since 5 August, and will not tolerate any attempts to compromise the security of the state,” he stated. “Any effort to incite unrest or form unlawful mobs will be met with firm and immediate action.”

Over the past month, security operations have led to the arrest of 1,979 KNF members, bringing the total number of detained individuals linked to the group to over 14,000. Additionally, more than 4,000 drug traffickers have been apprehended, according to army reports.

The army reiterated that its actions are being carried out strictly under government directives, with the protection of national sovereignty as its foremost duty.

Regarding the border situation, the army made it clear that any push-in attempts are unacceptable. While Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) currently manages the situation, the army stands ready to act if instructed by the government.

The press briefing concluded with a strong warning: any attempt to create disorder or challenge the nation’s peace and security will face decisive and strict countermeasures.
