‘Ekhon Tumi Kothay Achho Kemon Achho, Potro Dio’ – this is the line of poet Helal Hafiz’s poem ‘Prosthan’. Music director Emon Chowdhury made a song titled ‘Potra Dio’ from this poem.
Released in 2022, the song was sung by Avash Band’s vocalist Tanzir Tuhin.
After the death of Helal Hafiz on December 13, the song ‘Potro Dio’ came into discussion again.
After the poet’s death, many people are paying tribute to Helal Hafiz by sharing his various poems as well as the song ‘Potro Dio’ on social media.
In this regard, the composer and music director of the song Eamon Chowdhury told this correspondent, “It’s actually an expression of love for the poet. It is an honour for us to share the song ‘Potro Dio’ with his poem. I released the song in December 2022. The poet left us in December this year. The departure of a talented person like him is an irreparable loss for this country.”
Emon Chowdhury did not make the song ‘Potro Dio’ from any plan. Out of love for poetry, one day suddenly decided to turn it into a song.
While talking in this regard, he told this correspondent, “’Prosthan’ is everyone’s favourite poem. I always try to tune from words. Ever since I read the poem, I felt like it was talking to the tune inside. That’s what I tried to extract. I have no credit here. The tone is found from the poet’s writing. After the poem, I have expressed that feeling. There was no extra experiment. There was no prior plan to sing from the poem ‘Prosthan’. I try to read books whenever I have time.”
“This poem suddenly came in front of my eyes one day, although it was read before. But the tune came during the reading of the service,” he added.
The song ‘Potro Dio’ was first sung by Emon himself. But when he started, Tuhin’s voice was coming to his ears. So, Emon decided to record the song in Tuhin’s voice.
Emon said in this regard, “Although it was released in December 2022, I composed the song a few months ago. At first in the demo version I gave that voice. But at that time Tuhin Bhai’s voice was floating in my ears again and again. It seemed that the song would suit his voice well. Called him one day and told him about the song. Within a few days Tuhin Bhai came to the studio. He suffered a lot for the song. In the afternoon, I started to prepare the voice. Tuhin Bhai was with us the whole time. He gave his voice after 3:00am. That morning I recorded the video with my mobile phone. There were no plans for video capture. Love the poetry and make the song from the heart.”
With the permission of Helal Hafiz, Emon actually made the song ‘Potro Dio’. However, after the song was ready, he said that the song was not played to him. However, after the song was ready, he did not physically get the scope to listen the song to the poet.
At that time, the poet was ill and admitted to the hospital. Lying in the hospital bed, the poet heard the song and applauded.

The hospital authorities did not allow him to meet. Among the people close to him, the poet heard the song. He was very operatic. After the release of the song, he also shared it on Facebook. It is a great achievement for us that we have been able to hold Helal Hafiz to the next generation.”
