Actress Sohana Saba has been taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Media and Public Relations Division Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wilbur Rahman confirmed on Thursday night.
Earlier in the evening, actress and director Meher Afroz Shaon was also taken into DB custody from her residence in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.
DB Chief Rezaul Karim Mallick stated that Shaon was detained on charges of conspiring against the state and was taken to the DB office on Mintoo Road for further questioning.
The detention follows growing discussions and debates over Shaon’s political stance and recent remarks that have stirred controversy on social media.
In a related incident, Shaon’s ancestral home in Jamalpur was set on fire by protesters. The house, belonging to her father, Engineer Mohammad Ali, was torched around 6:00 pm near Narundi Railway Station in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.
Authorities have yet to disclose specific details regarding the allegations against Sohana Saba. Both actresses are currently under investigation, with further updates expected.
Sohana Saba is a well-known figure in the Bangladeshi film industry, recognized for her roles in Ayna and Brihonnola. Meher Afroz Shaon, an actress, director, and architect, is also known for her contributions to Bangladeshi cinema and as a playback singer.
