‘Social inclusion needs for type-1 diabetes reductions’

Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS) President and National Professor A. K. Azad Khan said ensuring education, employment and social inclusion of diabetic patients along with treatment is a holistic social responsibility.

The Professor came up with the remarks at a special event on Thursday organized by PDRC on childhood and adolescent diabetes awareness on the occasion of World Diabetes Day 2025.
It is not an expense, it is an investment. He said that it is not enough to just treat sick people, but it is also important to create opportunities for education, employment and participation in society for everyone for a healthy society.

Tibi said this at a discussion and awareness program on child and adolescent diabetes on the occasion of World Diabetes Day 2025, organized by the Pediatric Diabetes Care and Research Center (PDRC) of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS).

PDRC Director Dr. Bedoura Jabin said in her speech at the event, “Along with the treatment of patients, it is our responsibility to ensure their education, employment and social inclusion. This is a huge challenge for developing countries like ours in the case of patients with type-1 diabetes.”
The event was addressed as special guests by Badass Secretary General Md. Sayef Uddin, BIRDEM Director General Professor Mirza Faisal, Danish Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Anders B. Carlsen, Novo Nordisk Pharma GM Dr. Mohammad Riyad Mamun Pradhani, Professor Zakir Hossain, Line Director, NCDC DGHS and UNICEF Representative Dr. Emdad Hossain.

At the event, young people with type 1 diabetes shared their stories of challenges and successes in their careers through videography and live experience sharing. In addition, the “Ideal Patient, Parent, and Staff of the Year” awards were presented.
