Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim PPM Seba has been promoted to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP, Grade-2). On May 8, the 15th meeting of the Superior Selection Board recommended the promotion of 12 people to the post of Additional IGP. The recommendation was approved by the Honorable Chief Advisor on May 17. One of the people on the approved promotion list is SMP Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim.
The matter was confirmed in a letter signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md. Towhid Bin Hasan on Sunday, May 18. The letter requested the issuance of a notification to the officers approved for promotion on the recommendation of the Superior Selection Board.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, Rezaul Karim took charge as the SMP Commissioner on September 5 after being promoted as DIG. He succeeded in his multifaceted efforts to restore peace and order in Sylhet metropolis in the changed situation. He has been playing a commendable role in building people’s trust in the police, mobilizing police activities, removing illegal stands of hawkers and vehicles, and restoring order on the roads by stopping the movement of trucks in the metropolis at untimely hours, stopping the movement of unregistered CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and banned battery-powered rickshaws, bringing the main culprits of smuggling under the law, and stopping the buying, selling, and consuming of drugs, gambling, and prostitution. In addition, he has taken a courageous step in stopping the sudden procession of banned Chhatra League leaders and activists. He has earned the trust of all the masses with his people-friendly activities. He has succeeded in peacefully resolving the issue of un-Islamic and anti-social activities by seriously considering the opinions of religious leaders regarding the Urs of the Shahjalal (Rah.) Shrine in Sylhet. Therefore, the Urs was completed in a desired atmosphere. The promotion of this officer, who has been praised for his work, is causing joy and excitement among all levels of SMP police members.
