SJC submits probe report on Masuda Bhatti to President

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has concluded an investigation into allegations of “misconduct” against Information Commissioner Masuda Bhatti and submitted its report to the president last week for further action.

Masuda Bhatti, appointed as an information commissioner during the previous government’s tenure on August 24, 2023, has reportedly been absent from her workplace without authorization since August 5 of the same year, which constitutes misconduct, according to Supreme Court Spokesperson Muajjem Hussain.
Hussain stated that the president will now take appropriate measures regarding Masuda Bhatti’s case.

The SJC launched the investigation following a reference sent by
the president’s office, he added.

The council comprises senior judges of the Appellate Division, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, and Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury.

In 2018, multiple cases were filed against Barrister Mainul Hosein, a former adviser to the military-backed caretaker government, after he made remarks about Masuda Bhatti during a television program.

Mainul Hosein, now deceased, was imprisoned for several months in connection with those cases, bringing Masuda Bhatti into the public spotlight at the time.

Meanwhile, the despite allegations of involving corruption against Masuda Bhatti as she was one of the closest allies of Hasina regime, the authorities yet to seize her bank accounts, which created anger among the concern people.

Barrister Mainul Hosein was passes away one year ago, had to suffer in jail for several months in connection with the cases and Masuda Bhatti came into discussion in various circles over that incident.

Earlier, Hasina regime appointed Masuda Bhatti as information commissioners.
