Six workers suffered burns in an explosion that occurred inside the RMS (gas chamber room) located between MS Dyeing, Printing & Finishing and Fair Apparels factories in the BSCIC industrial area of Narayanganj. The injured workers are Al Amin (30), Azizullah (32), Selim (35), Jalal Molla (40), Nazmul Huda (35), and security supervisor Nur Mohammad (35). The accident took place around 8:30 AM on Sunday. All of them were rescued in critical condition and admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the Burn Institute, said the victims are being treated at the emergency unit. According to him, Jalal sustained burns over 14 percent of his body, Azizullah 9 percent, Nazmul 28 percent, Selim 10 percent, Al Amin 17 percent, and Nur Mohammad 2 percent. Two of the patients suffered airway burns and are currently in the ICU.
Eyewitnesses said that a gas contractor was repairing the gas chamber room of MS Dyeing and Fair Apparels. While cutting an iron pipe with a grinding machine without shutting off the gas line, a spark ignited the gas, triggering an explosion. The chamber room was soon engulfed in smoke. As the trapped workers screamed for help, other workers welding pipes
near the RMS room rushed to rescue them. The factory authorities then called an ambulance and sent the injured to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka. Around 8:30 AM, a loud explosion was heard from the room, followed by flames that engulfed the area and severely burned six people. Abdul Halim, Senior Officer at the Fatullah BSCIC Industrial Area Fire Station, said the explosion occurred due to a spark in the gas of the RMS room. Among the injured, five worked for MS Dyeing and one for Fair
Apparels, the neighboring factory. The Fire Service has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
