In Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj, Christians are preparing to celebrate one of their major religious festivals, Christmas, which arrives on Wednesday. In anticipation of the occasion, various Christian communities across the upazila and the Shadhu Joseph Church area are engaged in extensive decorations and preparations. Homes, churches, and surrounding areas are adorned with colourful lights, paper flowers, stars, and Christmas trees. The excitement of children and adolescents, along with preparations for prayers, has filled the entire area with a festive atmosphere.

Members of the local Christian community say that Christmas is not just a festival of joy but also carries a message of love, sacrifice, and peace. Shawan Gomez, a resident of the Sirajdikhan Christian Colony, said, “Having returned from abroad, we are, as every year, preparing to celebrate Christmas with religious solemnity, together with the local people.

From the night of 24 December, special prayers and gatherings will take place at the church.”
Meanwhile, newlywed Smita Gomez said, “Christmas is a time for the whole family to come together. Special meals and gifts are being prepared for the children.”

Father Kamal Kordaiya, the chief priest of Shulpur Shadhu Joseph Church, stated, “For us, Christmas is not just a religious festival. It carries a message of love, peace, and humanity. We all pray for harmony and goodwill in society. Our aim is for everyone, regardless of religion, to celebrate Christmas peacefully. The birth of Jesus Christ teaches us the values of compassion and forgiveness, and we hope this message of peace spreads among all people.”
