Manir Hossain, Narayanganj:

Siddhirganj Police Station has been conducting a successful campaign against drugs. Over the past 10 months, 171 drug-related cases have been filed. In each case, the accused have been arrested and sent to jail, and a large quantity of narcotics has been recovered during police raids. Locals believe that if the police continue their campaign against drugs, the youth of Siddhirganj will be at least somewhat protected from destruction. It has been learned that a total of 430 cases have been filed against criminals in various operations by Siddhirganj Police Station between January and October. Of these, 171 are drug cases. The seized drugs include 5,575 Yaba pills, 46 kilograms of marijuana, 370 grams of heroin, 219 kilograms of hemp, 35 grams of Phensedyl, 79 bottles of Phensedyl, and 15 liters of locally made liquor.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahinur Alam of Siddhirganj Police Station said that 696 accused individuals were arrested in regular cases between January 25 and October 25. The cases include charges of murder, robbery, speedy trial cases, possession of illegal weapons, banditry, kidnapping, extortion, anti-discrimination-related murder, rape, gang rape, violence against women, child abuse, theft, and road accidents. OC Shahinur Alam stated, “The police station is always ready to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the general public in every neighborhood. The police are working to bring various criminals, including drug traffickers, under the law.” Various strategies are being implemented to boost police morale. Regardless of how influential certain criminals may be, no concessions are being given—and none will be. He added that Siddhirganj Police Station is working tirelessly under the guidance of the Narayanganj Superintendent of Police. He also urged local residents to cooperate with the police in eradicating crime.

Shakhawat Hossain, president of Siddhirganj’s Mizmiji Alamin Nagar Samaj Unnayan Sangstha, said that since the current officer-in-charge took charge, residents have been able to live more peacefully thanks to effective police activities. However, he believes that increasing night patrols would help further reduce the number of teenage gangs. Haji Md. Ishaq Mia, general secretary of Baitun Najat Jame Mosque, said that the presence of criminals has decreased due to regular police patrols. “We, the locals, hope that Siddhirganj Police Station will continue to play an even stronger role in curbing crime in the coming days,” he added.
