The Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program (SICIP) of the Finance Division, under the Ministry of Finance, successfully organized a workshop on the “Bangladesh Industry Research Development and Innovation (BIRDI) Grants” on Monday at the Hotel Intercontinental Dhaka.

The event aimed to guide prospective applicants through the process of submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) for innovative grants. The workshop served as a key platform to disseminate information on the EOI submission process and the selection criteria for the grants. These grants are a central component of SICIP’s initiative to fund practical, industry-led solutions that drive growth and innovation, says a press release.

The event gathered a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from the Finance Division, senior academics from renowned universities, research institutions, industry associations, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Mr. Mohammed Walid Hossain, Additional Secretary and Executive Program Director (EPD) of SICIP, delivered the welcome address.

In his speech, he emphasized the programme’s significance, stating, “We encourage all eligible applicants to actively compete for this grant, which represents a unique opportunity to transform innovative ideas into tangible industry solutions.”

Dr. Ziaul Abedin, Additional Secretary of the Finance Division, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative. “The BIRDI grant is designed to foster a culture of research and development within our industrial sector. This is not just about funding projects; it is about building a more competitive and resilient economy for Bangladesh,” he remarked.
