A sub-inspector of police was killed after being struck by a bus of Balaka Paribahan near the slope of the Khilgaon flyover in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area on Monday night.
The victim, Kamrul Islam, 37, was posted at Motijheel Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The incident occurred around 8:30 pm while he was heading to work from his residence in Basabo. According to Shahjahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Hossain, a bus hit Kamrul’s motorcycle near Khalil’s Meat Shop in Khilgaon, causing him to fall onto the road.
He was critically injured and taken to Islami Bank Central Hospital in Kakrail, where doctors declared him dead around 9:30 pm.
Kamrul Islam, whose badge number was 9019223215, lived in a rented apartment with his family in Basabo. His ancestral home is in Netrakona Sadar Upazila.
OC Jahangir Hossain confirmed that the bus involved in the accident has been seized, and its driver, Jahangir Ahmed Tipu, has been arrested. The body has been sent to Mugda Medical College Hospital, and legal proceedings are underway.
