Bangladesh fast bowler Shoriful Islam is temporarily sidelined after suffering a left-hand injury during a warm-up match against India. The injury, which required six stitches, will take some time to heal, ruling him out of the upcoming match against Sri Lanka.

“Such stitches typically heal within 7 to 10 days, depending on the player’s condition. The doctors have given some advice, and we’ll have a clearer picture in three to four days. His chances of playing in the first match against Sri Lanka are slim.” the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physio Bayejedul Islam said to media in USA.

While there is concern over Shoriful, there is almost no doubt regarding Taskin Ahmed’s availability.

It appears likely that Taskin will feature in the first match against Sri Lanka on June 7 (June 8 in Bangladesh). According to physio Bayejedul Islam, Bangladesh is set to build their pace attack around Taskin for the Dallas match against Sri Lanka.

Taskin did not play in the three-match T20 series against the USA or in the World Cup warm-up matches as he was recovering hamstring injury, which he got in Zimbabwe series.

However, physio Bayejedul Islam has expressed optimism about Taskin’s condition ahead of the main tournament.

“Taskin has made significant progress. He planned to bowl outdoors today, but we brought him indoors instead.

He is scheduled to resume full bowling on June 5. Based on that, we will determine his availability for the June 7 (June 8 in Bangladesh) match. So far, his recovery has been very promising.” Bayejed said.
