Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar arrived in Dhaka on Sunday night to take up his new role as mentor of Dhaka Capitals ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket.
Akhtar received a warm welcome from the franchise’s owner organisation, Remark HB, upon his arrival. His appointment is seen as a major boost for Dhaka Capitals as they prepare for the new season. Dhaka Capitals and Remark HB have expressed confidence and excitement about the upcoming campaign under Akhtar’s mentorship.
The franchise is focused on forming a strong and disciplined squad, and Akhtar’s involvement is expected to significantly strengthen their preparations. With his wealth of international experience, winning mentality and leadership qualities, Akhtar will play a key role in guiding the team both on and off the field.
Although Shoaib Akhtar has not previously visited Bangladesh frequently in his post-retirement role, he has faced Bangladesh several times on the cricket field as a fierce competitor during his international career.
During Pakistan’s tours in the early 2000s, Akhtar played against the Bangladesh national team in Test and ODI matches. For example, in the 2003 Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test series, Akhtar delivered a powerful bowling performance, including a remarkable haul of wickets against Bangladesh in Peshawar, showcasing his pace and reverse swing that made him one of the most feared bowlers in the world at the time.
