Shirin Sharmin, Tipu Munshi named in murder case

A case of murder has been registered against 17 people including former speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, former commerce minister Tipu Munshi in the case of gold worker Muslim Uddin Milan (38) who was shot dead in Rangpur.

Dilruba Akhter, the wife of deceased Muslim Uddin of East Ganeshpur area of Rangpur city filed the case in the Metropolitan Kotwali Amli Court on Tuesday afternoon. Confirming the case, Member Secretary of Anti-Discrimination Lawyers Movement Palash Kanti Nag said, “The judge has instructed the OC of Kotwali Police Station of Rangpur metropolis to accept the case.”

The other accused in the case are Abul Kalam Mohammad Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury, former Member of Parliament of Rangpur-2 Constituency, Nachima Zaman, former Member of Parliament of Reserved Constituency, District Bar Association President Abdul Malek, General Secretary Abdul Haque Pramanik, Awami League Leader Rashek Rahman, District Awami League Convener Chayadat. Hossain, former president of Metropolitan Awami League Shafiar Rahman and former general secretary Tushar Kanti Mondal, Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Zakir Hossain, former DIG of Rangpur Range Abdul Baten, former Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Moniruzzaman, former Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mobashwer Hasan, Rangpur’s former Superintendent of Police Shahjahan, Additional Superintendent of Police (A Circle) Hussain Mohammad Raihan, Additional Superintendent of Police (B Circle) Abu Ashraf Siddiqui have been mentioned. Apart from this, many others have been made unknown accused.

According to the statement of the case, during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 19, there was a clash between the students and the Awami League leaders and activists in the City Bazaar area. At this time, the police fired indiscriminately.

When Muslim Uddin was shot, he was rescued and taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Later, under the pressure of the accused, the body was hastily buried without post-mortem.
