Shilpakala Academy’s special event on Farida Parveen today

Noted Lalon music artiste Farida Parveen wanted to live among her students. That is why she established the Achin Pakhi Music Academy to teach Lalon songs. Expressing her wish, Farida Parveen said, “Just as Saiji lives among his students, my guru lives among me, similarly I want to live among my Achin Pakhi students.” On the occasion of Farida Parveen’s birthday today (December 31), the Achin Pakhi Music Academy she founded has organised a special programme at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
The event, which will be held at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) at 4:00pm on Wednesday will feature discussions and cultural programmes. Invited guests will narrate various chapters of the artiste’s life.
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar will be the chief guest at the event. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana and the BSA Director General Rezauddin Stalin will be the special guests. Social Development Foundation Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Majid will inaugurate the event. Farida Parveen’s partner and flute player Gazi Abdul Hakim will preside.
Farida Parveen was born on December 31, 1954, in Natore. Farida Parveen started singing at the age of five under Kamal Chakraborty in Magura. Her professional musical career began at the age of just 14. Although she has sung various types of songs including Nazrul songs and patriotic songs in her career, she has mainly gained popularity for her love songs. In recognition of her contribution to music, Farida Parveen has received numerous awards, including the Ekushey Padak (1987), the National Film Award (1993), and Japan’s Fukuwaka Prize (2008).
Farida Parveen, who left the country on September 13 this year, never to return. She had been ill for a long time. She was suffering from various physical complications including kidney problems and diabetes.
