Shift-based admission test at JU

Latest New

JU Correspondent :

Several candidates who competed on the entrance test for ‘B’ unit under Social Science faculty of Jahangirnagar University (JU), have alleged that they were deprived of the test following the examination procedure as the hardening of questions differs from one shift to another.

Besides, the recently published results paint a grim picture of inequality in the shift system where a shift holds more than a hundred merit position holders while another shift holds only one.

The ‘B’ unit test was held under 5 shifts on November 13 on the internal venue of the campus and the results of a total of candidates—10 times compared to the number of available seats both for male and female candidates were published on Thursday aiming to nominate 326 meritorious.

According to the published result, the 5th shift has the highest number of 217 merit holders, which is about 67 percent of the total seats and only 12 merit holder belongs to the 2nd shift examination.

Besides, 33 candidates from the first shift, 35 from 3rd shift, and 29 from fourth shift belong to the top 326 candidates.

Shariful Islam Sumon, who passed HSC from Kurigram Government College and sat on the test under 5th shift said, ‘I have found a lot of exercisable questions on my paper while my friend who competed under first shift told about comparatively easier questions.’

Anu Muhammad, an educationist and professor of Economics at Jahangirnagar University told journalists that the inequality has come to sight because of not holding examination under identical question paper.

The economist also urged to hold the entrance test in divisional cities to minimize the hassle of candidates and their guardians and also to evict such allegations.

Earlier, University Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Nurul Alam expressing concern over the results of ‘D’ unit admission test, said, ‘We will discuss the matter in order to find the best possible ways to get rid of the shift-wise problem’.
