Six people were killed and two injured in a collision between a bus and a CNG-powered autorickshaw on the Sherpur-Mymensingh highway.
The collision took place on Sunday at around 11:45am in the PTI area of Bhatsala Union on the Sherpur-Dhaka highway.
According to local authorities and eyewitnesses, five people died on the spot.
One person, critically injured, succumbed to injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Two others remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at Sherpur Sadar Hospital.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, but all were passengers of the autorickshaw, which was completely crushed in the collision.
Police and fire service personnel promptly arrived at the scene to rescue the injured and recover the bodies.
Sherpur Sadar Police Station OC Zobaidul Islam stated that reckless speed or overtaking might have been the cause of the accident.
Local residents managed to seize the Rifat Paribahan bus involved in the incident.
Residents have urged the government to enhance road safety measures and strengthen traffic control systems in accident-prone areas to prevent such incidents in the future.
