Sheikh Russell Day was celebrated in Barisal on the 59th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, through rallies, tributes, discussion meetings and award distribution ceremonies.
At ten o’clock in the morning, the leaders and activists of Awami League and other organizations paid their respects to Sheikh Russell’s portrait adjacent to the party office.
District Awami League Secretary Advocate Talukder Md. Yunus said, by killing the father of the nation, the killers wanted to take Bangladesh to the old way of thinking. For which the child also killed Russell. The murderers feared that Russell had the blood of the father of the nation in his veins. If they live, their dreams will fail. But the assassins did not succeed. They demanded an investigation committee to find out the leaders behind the murder.
A colorful rally was taken out from Bangabandhu Udyan in the city on Tuesday (October 18) at 9 am organized by the divisional and district administration of Barishal which ends at district Shilpakala Academy Auditorium.
Later, Barishal Divisional Commissioner Amin Ul Ahsan, Barishal Range DIG SM Aktaruzzaman and representatives of various departments paid their respects by placing wreaths on the temporary portrait of Shaheed Sheikh Russell.
Later, a discussion session was held in the district Shilpakala Academy auditorium with the slogan, Sheikh Russell is the epitome of serenity, brave, lively and fearless. Barishal Divisional Commissioner Amin ul Ahsan was the chief guest.
Barishal Deputy Commissioner Barisal Jasim Uddin Haider was the special guest in the event attended by Barishal Range Additional DIG. A. KM Iqbal Hossain, Barishal Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Headquarters) Sanjay Kumar Kundu, Barishal District Superintendent of Police Wahidul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Mandeeb Gharai, Conscious Citizen Committee (SANAK) President Professor Shah Sajeda along with the district administration.
The officers and employees of various departments, teachers and students were present in the programme.
At the end of the discussion meeting, the chief guest and other guests distributed prizes among the winners of the competition on various topics of the ICT department and district children’s academy at the district level.
