Powerhouse Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited started their 2nd phase of Nitol Tata Bangladesh Premier Football League with a happy note when they posted a 2-1 goal win over Chittagong Abahani Limited held on Friday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here.
Forward Sohel Mia put the post city team Chittagong Abahani ahead early in the 8th minute taking opportunity of misunderstanding between Sheikh Jamal’s defenders and goalkeeper.
Defender Diderul Haque sent a back pass to goalie M Ziaur Rahman who failed to hold the ball and Chittagong Abahani’s forward Sohel placed it into the net (1- 0).
Sheikh Jamal had chance to level the margin, but Nigerian forward Denial Onyachi’s right-footed shot from the D box was saved by Selim Ullah, who dived to the right in the 20th minute.
Denial squandered another opportunity for Sheikh Jamal in the 63rd minute as his header went wide on a cross of Haitian forward Wedson Anselme.
After the resumption, Sheikh Jamal restored the parity in the 73rd minute when skipper Nasiruddin Chowdhury’s header hit the back of the net after the cross was fed by Wedson from the left (1-1).
Sheikh Jamal were very neat to take lead but Wedson fierce right footer was blocked by Chittagong Abahni’s goalie Selim Ullah in the 80th minute.
Captain Nasir sealed the victory for Sheikh Jamal with a nice volley again on cross off Haitian Wedson from the left one minute before the long whistle (2-1).
After the win, Sheikh Jamal took their tally to 24 points from 10 matches while Chittagong Abahani remained their previous credit of 5 points from same number of outings.
