Shanto hits half-century

Bangladesh piled up a fighting total of 236 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs against New Zealand (NZ) in their Group-A match of the ICC Champions Trophy at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan on Monday.

Bangladesh had a good start with two openers Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto put on together 45 runs in the opening stand before Tanzid Hasan (24) was caught at the midwicket by Kane Williamson off Michael Bracewell. Shanto notched up a terrific 77. His 110-ball innings was belted with nine fours.

One-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz (13) was caught at the mid-on by Mitchell Santner off Will O’Rourke when Bangladesh’s score was 64 for two wickets.

Shanto and second-down Towhid Hridoy added together 33 runs for the third wicket partnership before Hridoy (7) was caught at the cover by Williamson off Bracewell when the Tigers’ total was 97 for the loss of three wickets.

Third-down Mushfiqur Rahim (2) was caught at the deep midwicket by Rachin Ravindra off Bracewell when Bangladesh’s score was 106 for the loss of four wickets.

Fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad (4) was caught by Will O’Rourke off Bracewell when Bangladesh’s total was 118 for the loss of five wickets. Shanto and fifth-down Jaker Ali built a remarkable partnership contributing together 45 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Shanto was caught by Bracewell off Will O’Rourke when the Tigers’ score was 163 for the loss of six wickets.

After Shanto’s dismissal, Jaker Ali and Rishad Hossain scored together 33 runs in the seven-wicket stand before Rishad Hossain (26) was caught at the mid-off by Santner off Matt Henry when Bangladesh’s total was 196 for the loss of seven wickets.

After Rishad’s departure, Jaker Ali and Taskin Ahmed added together 35 runs for the eighth wicket partnership before Jaker Ali was run out by Tom Latham when Bangladesh’s score was 231 for the loss of eight wickets.

Jaker Ali hit a polished 45. His 55-ball knock was ornamented with three fours and one six.
Taskin Ahmed (10) was caught at the long-off by Devon Conway off Kyle Jamieson when Bangladesh’s total was 236 for the loss of nine wickets.

Bracewell captured four wickets in the space of 26 runs, while O’Rourke bagged two wickets at the cost of 48 runs.

Jamieson and Henry got one wicket each conceding 48 and 57 runs respectively.
