1st Test against Zimbabwe: Shanto helps Bangladesh to earn slim lead

Bangladesh earned a slim 112-run lead in the second innings against Zimbabwe in the first Test match on the third day at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Najmul Hossain Shanto played the key role to keep Bangladesh’s hope alive scoring 60 (not out).
Deciding to bat first, Bangladesh scored 191 in their first innings on the first day (Sunday).
In reply, Zimbabwe piled up a satisfactory 273 in their first innings on the second day (Monday).
The Tigers scored 194 for the loss of four wickets on the third day (Tuesday) before the bails were drawn due to bad light.
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 57 for the loss of one wicket.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 28 and 15 runs respectively.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy could add more five runs on the third day before Joy (33) was caught at the first slip by Craig Ervine off Blessing Muzarabani when Bangladesh’s score was 73 for the loss of two wickets.
Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed together 65 runs for the third wicket partnership before Mominul Haque was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nyasha Mayavo off Victor Nyauchi when the Tigers’ total was 138 for the loss of three wickets.
Mominul Haque hit a polished 47. His 84-ball innings was belted with six fours.
After Mominul’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim arrived at the crease but he could stay at pitch for a short period as he (4) was caught at the first slip by Craig Ervine off Blessing Muzarabani when the hosts’ score was 155 for the loss of four wickets.
Shanto and Jaker Ali added together 39 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership before the third day match was ended due to lack of sufficient light.
Jaker Ali remained unbeaten with 21 runs.
Blessing Muzarabani captured three wickets in the space of 51 runs, while Victor Nyauchi picked up one wicket at the cost of 28 runs.
