Bangla Academy former Director General (DG) Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan has died of Covid-19 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on Wednesday (April 14th). Director general of Bangla Academy Habibullah Siraj confirmed the death.
He breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) at 2:00 pm on Wednesday.
Confirming the matter, Bangla Academy’s current DG Poet Habibullah Siraj said Shamsuzzaman Khan will be buried in his mother’s grave in Manikganj as per the family’s decision.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni and State Minister for Culture KM Khalid expressed deep shock at the death of the country’s prominent folklorist.
It is to be mentioned that Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan was tested positive for the coronavirus on April 8. He was transferred to the ICU when his condition deteriorated.
