Bangladesh ace-all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan likely to miss the first three matches of the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe and set to play the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Super League stage.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus stated if the all-rounder can manage his workload, he might play the last two T20Is scheduled to be played in Dhaka.
Shakib will return to the country from USA this week to take part in DPL’s Super League stage for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. It was learned that he will play the domestic tournament before playing the last part of Zimbabwe series.
“Shakib is expected to return to the country in a couple of days. He will participate in the Super League after his return. We will discuss this with him and then finalize the decision. However, based on what I’ve heard, he may not play with Zimbabwe in the Chattogram phase, as he will be playing in the Super League. We will confirm the details following our discussion,” said Jalal.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, the Chairman of the BCB Selection Panel wants ace all rounder Shakib Al Hasan to play some matches of the Super League phase of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) ahead of the five-match T20 International (T20I) series against Zimbabwe, starting on May 3.
Shakib, a player of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club played DPL group phase matches after the Sri Lanka series and thereafter headed to USA to spend Eid holidays with his family.
“We have already contacted Shakib Al Hasan. He will return to country at the end of this month,” Lipu, also a former national captain said on Monday.
“He has the opportunity to play some matches of the Super League and then he will get into the supervision of the team management. There he will have the opportunity to train with some cricketing skills. But certainly we want him to play some matches at the fag end of the Super League.”
