Dhaka witnessed a massive rally on Thursday, marking the one-month anniversary of the fall of the fascist government, where students from schools, madrasas, and universities, along with ordinary citizens from diverse professions, spontaneously joined the ‘Shaheedi March’.

Thousands of participants, waving the national flag, carrying banners, and holding placards, gathered at the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University (DU) to honour the martyrs of the mass uprising.

The rally, called the ‘Shaheedi March’, was organised by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to commemorate the sacrifices of those who died for the cause.

The central programme of the march took place at the DU campus, with similar rallies held across the country.

Unlike previous rallies, this one saw a remarkable turnout of madrasa and school students, along with participants from all walks of life.

Shahidullah Mahmud, a student of Jamia Madaniya Baridhara Madrasa, said, “Fascist Sheikh Hasina should be tried. Those who were martyred in this movement should be given state recognition.”

The march began at the DU campus and passed through Nilkhet, New Market, Kalabagan, Dhanmondi, Sangsad Bhaban, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, and Shahbagh, ending at the Central Shaheed Minar.

The students chanted slogans_ ‘My brother’s blood, will not let go in vain’, ‘Abu Sayed, Mugdho, the war is not over,’ ‘in memory of the martyrs, do not fear death’, (Shaheeder Sharona, Vhoy Korina Moroney), ‘Delhi na Dhaka, Dhaka’.

The students also sought justice for the fascist Hasina and her collaborators in their slogans.

Humayun Royal, a student came from Uthara, said, “Today I came here to join the Sahidi March program to reduce my regret that I could not participate in victory day on August 5 as I was at Sylhet.

We will again shed our blood if needed but will not let the freedom go in vain.”
The students also called for swept trial while observing the one-month of removal of the fascist Hasina.

“Today we want to express our deepest respect to our heroes of the mass uprising. We gained the victory against the fascist Hasina spending many people’s life specially hundreds of youths.

We want to build the country based on merit and will continue the protest against corruption and fascist remembering the martyrs,” Fahim Islam, a doctor who joined the rally said.

Among the coordinators, Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Ahmed, Abu Baker Majumdar, and others were also present in the march.
