Shaheed Minars damaged in six districts

Latest New

While the nation paid tributes to the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, miscreants damaged seven Shaheed Minars in four districts over three days. The Shaheed Minar at Benupur’s Bazlur Rahman High School at Gazipur’s Kaliakoir Upazila was vandalised on Friday morning after people paid their respects.

The plaques for the martyrs at the Mahendrapur Primary School in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali, Hossainpur Government Primary School in Narsinghdi Sadar Upazila, and another at the Badarpur SESDP Model High School were damaged in the early hours of Friday.
On Wednesday night, miscreants had also defaced the memorials at the
Joduboyra Secondary School in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali and Boalmari Government Primary School in Pabna’s Chatmohar.
Police have arrested an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami at Kumarkhali where the head of a school management committee blamed the activists of Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir for the attack.
Social and cultural activists of these districts have expressed deep anger over these incidents and demanded immediate arrest and punishment of the perpetrators.
bdnews24.com Narsinghdi Correspondent said, the damage to three Shaheed Minars, two of them thrown up with banana trees, angered the people including students, guardians and teachers alike.
They demanded the arrest of the miscreants.

Badarpur Jubo Sangha President Rifat Bhuiyan said they had decorated the monuments with coloured paper. “In the morning, we found that the Shaheed Minar had been broken.”

Narsinghdi Superintendent of Police Khandaker Mohid Uddin on Friday evening told bdnews24.com they were looking into the incident.
Actions would be taken against those found guilty, he added.
bdnews24.com Kushtia Correspondent reported, quoting
Mahendrapur Primary School officials, the miscreants damaged two pillars of the monument at the institution ground in early hours of Friday.
The people of the area, students and teachers of the school, however, paid their tributes to the martyrs at the defaced Shaheed Minar.
Earlier, the Shaheed Minars at
Joduboyra Secondary School at Kumarkhali and Boalmari Government Primary School at Pabna’s Chatmohar had been damaged late on Wednesday night.
Joduboyra School management committee head Shariful Islam blamed the activists of Jamaat and Shibir for the attack.
Kumarkhali Police Station OC Lutfor Rahman said local Jamaat activist Shamsul Islam had been arrested over the Joduboyra School incident.

Police were still trying to nab the miscreants, he said.
bdnews24.com Gazipur Correspondent said miscreants damaged three pillars of the Shaheed Minar at Bazlur Rahman High School at Gazipur’s Kaliakoir Upazila on Friday morning after locals and students left after paying homage.
The school’s officials did not manage to see the perpetrators.
After the death sentence for war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee in February last year, the Jamaat had unleashed large-scale violence across the country. Several Shaheed Minars in different districts were attacked and damaged at that time. – bdnews24.com
