‘Shadows of fascism still haunt country’
Staff Reporter :
Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar on Saturday said the country has not yet fully emerged from the shadows of fascism, even after the fall of the fascist regime.
“On August 5, many young individuals, including children, sacrificed their lives in the struggle against fascism. The haunting scenes of people dying on hospital balconies remain vivid in our memory. Some lost limbs, others were killed by bullets. These sacrifices stand as a testament to the patriotism and bravery of our youth,” she said.
Farida Akhtar made these remarks while addressing a seminar titled ‘New Thinking: Developing the Skills of Youth’, held at the Upazila Auditorium in Chandanaish, Chattogram. The event was organized by Swapnavilas Vidyanyakaniketan.
She urged the youth to stay engaged and outspoken in the ongoing fight for justice.
The seminar was presided over by Chandanaish Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rajib Hossain. Among others who spoke as special guests were Chandanaish Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Diplomacy Chakma, Officer-in-Charge Golam Sarwar, Chandanaish Samity-Chattogram Adviser and Jamaat leader Dr Shahadat Hossain, LDP Presidium Member Prof Omar Faruk, former President of Chattogram Bar Association Advocate Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, Chandanaish Samity-Chattogram President Maksudur Rahman, General Secretary Jahangir Alam, and former General Secretary of Chandanaish Upazila BNP MA Hashem Raju.
Later in the afternoon, a separate discussion was held at the same venue involving officials from the Department of Fisheries and Livestock Advisory Services at both the district and upazila levels, alongside local farmers.
