SGFL’s plan daily 160m cubic feet gas supply

Sylhet Gas Fields Company Limited (SGFL) has taken up a master plan to drill six new wells and re-drill five wells to overcome the ongoing gas crisis in the country.

Through this initiative, it will be possible to supply 164 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national transmission line this year.

Currently, 137 million cubic feet of gas is being produced daily from 16 wells of Sylhet Gas Fields. Activities are underway to drill and re-drill new gas wells with the aim of producing 164 million cubic feet of gas daily by 2025.

Sylhet Gas Fields Limited Managing Director Engineer Md. Abdul Jalil Pramanik said that the cost of this project has been estimated at 1,742 crore taka.

In the meantime, agreements have been signed with various organizations including Chinese companies to drill wells at Rashidpur-11 and 13, Kailashtila-9, Dupitila-1, Sylhet-10X and Sylhet-11.

He further said that currently 137 million cubic feet of gas is being produced daily from 16 wells in Sylhet Gas Fields. Activities are underway to drill and re-drill new gas wells with the aim of producing 164 million cubic feet of gas daily by 2025.

According to Petrobangla, the daily gas demand in the country is 3.8 billion cubic feet, but the supply is only 2.5 billion cubic feet.

It is expected that significant progress will be made in addressing the gas crisis through this initiative.
