Sewing training centre launched in Kulaura

A sewing training centre has been inaugurated in Kulaura, Moulvibazar, with funding from the country’s leading industrial group Bashundhara Group and the initiative of Bashundhara Shuvo Sangho, to make underprivileged women self-reliant.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mohiuddin inaugurated the training centre as the chief guest at the Muktijoddha Complex in Dakshinbazar of the municipal town at 4:30 pm on Saturday.

Yakub Tajul Mohila Degree College delivered the special guest speech at the inaugural ceremony, which was presided over by Abul Kashem Usmani, President of the Kulaura Upazila Branch of Bashundhara Shuvo Sangho, and conducted by General Secretary Bashir Al Ferdaus.

Retired Associate Professor of the college and Chief Adviser of Shuvo Sangho Dr Rajat Kanti Bhattacharya, Vice President of Moulvibazar District Journalist Forum and Adviser of Shuvo Sangho Md. Mosabbir Ali, General Secretary Najmul Bari Suhel, Adviser of Shuvo Sangho and Kaler Kantho correspondent Mahfuz Shakil, Vice President Rafiqul Islam Mamun, and others were present on the occasion.

Also present were Bashundhara Shuvo Sangho Vice President Saiful Islam Siddiqui, Joint General Secretaries Ibrahim Ali, Khairul Islam Rumel, Mayjul Islam, Organising Secretary and Trainer Sadia Jahan, Finance Secretary Mifta Ahmed Rafi, Relief and Disaster Management Secretary Ariful Islam Khan, among others.

Shuvo Sangho Adviser Mahfuz Shakil said that sewing training will be provided to 15 poor and needy students at this month-long training centre. The training is being conducted on Fridays and Saturdays each week.

After the training, Bashundhara Group will provide further support to each trainee to help them become self-reliant. A sewing machine will also be provided free of charge.

Chief Guest UNO Md. Mohiuddin said that, in addition to carrying out social service activities across the country under the initiative of Bashundhara Shuvo Sangho, its efforts to make the poor and helpless self-reliant including financial assistance to the poor and students, distribution of winter clothes, and standing by disaster-affected people are highly commendable.

“This initiative of Bashundhara Shuvo Sangho will play a leading role in making women, including students, self-reliant,” he said.

“Bashundhara Group is also playing a major role in reducing unemployment by creating thousands of jobs across its various enterprises in the country. I urge Bashundhara Group to continue such activities.”

Vice President of Moulvibazar District Journalist Forum and Shuvo Sangho Adviser Md. Mosabbir Ali, welcoming the initiative, said: “If this energy is harnessed through training and opportunities, women will play a vital role in the rural economy.

These women will now be able to start a new life and regain their dignity.”

Kulaura Upazila Press Club General Secretary Najmul Bari Suhel said in his remarks: “The country’s top industrial group, Bashundhara Group, has long been working for the welfare of the people.

It truly deserves praise for its important role in various welfare activities, including technical training to help poor students and women become self-reliant.”
