Rain drenches Dhaka city: Several areas waterlogged after downpour

An incessant spell of moderate to heavy rain drenched the capital on Monday, leading to waterlogging in some areas in Dhaka city.
37 mm of rain was recorded in the capital from morning to afternoon.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has predicted more rain in the city and its adjoining areas over the next few days.
Meanwhile, the capital’s Jurain, Mirpur, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Ansar Camp and the surrounding areas were submerged in knee-deep water as drains were overflowed due to the incessant rain. A heavy traffic jam was created on the key roads of these areas, causing huge sufferings to the commuters, especially the working people.

Old Dhaka’s Bangsal and Nazimuddin Road, Dhanmondi, Green Road, Agargaon to Jahangir Gate, Khamarbari to Farmgate and Farmgate to Tejgaon truck stand, some parts of Mohammadpur, Merul Badda, DIT Project area, Gulshan Lake adjacent area were among several other places that witnessed waterlogging.
However, the city dwellers demanded for improving the drainage system so that they do not suffer from the monsoon rains.
The sky of Dhaka was covered with clouds since morning. At 10:30 am moderate to heavy rain along with thunder and lightning has started, giving a perfect monsoon feel to citizens.
The entire Dhaka got cool in the rain which lasted for more than one hour. It brought much-needed relief to the city dwellers who witnessed a long-spell of heatwave in this summer.
The downpour has brought down temperature in the capital city.

The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 31.9 degrees Celsius in Dhaka and minimum temperature was 27.2 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Meanwhile, apart from the capital, several districts of the country, including Natore, Bogra and Sirajganj, witnessed heavy rain since morning.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast for the next 24 hours from 9 am has said that southwest monsoon has set in Bangladesh and monsoon wind is active over the North Bay of Bengal.
Due to its effect, there may be temporary gusty or windy rain or rain with thunder may occur in many places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions and some places of Chattogram and Barishal divisions. At the same time, moderate to very heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of the country.
The maximum rainfall of 117 mm was recorded in Sitakunda on Monday.
