Seized Manu river sand put up for auction

The upazila administration has put up for auction several crores of cubic feet of sand from the Manu River, which has been impounded for a long time in Kulaura, Moulvibazar. This is resolving the dispute between two parties in the local area over sand. The sand is being auctioned publicly after more than two years.
The relief has returned to the people of the area and their trust in the administration has been restored. The amount of sand available for auction is 2 crore 96 lakh 41 thousand 192 cubic feet. The value of which is estimated at 13 crore 33 lakh 85 thousand 364 taka.
Meanwhile, a four-member committee headed by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mohiuddin has been formed from the Deputy Commissioner’s office to implement the sand auction. The other members of the committee are Assistant Commissioner (Land), Upazila Engineer and Water.
This information was confirmed in an auction notice signed by Upazila Executive Officer and Convener of the Sand Auction Committee Md. Mohiuddin on Thursday, August 14. The notice mentioned that on July 2, Kulaura.
A total of 29.641 million cubic feet of illegally extracted sand stored in 1430 Bengali year was seized at Salon of Tilagaon Union of the upazila, Konimura, Harichak and Sadhanpur of Hajipur Union. In the Sadhanpur area, the price of 3 lakh 61 thousand 530 cubic feet of sand has been estimated at 16 lakh 26 thousand 885 taka.

Deepak Dey, a resident of Prithimpasha Union, took the lease of the sand palace from the district administration in the last 1430 Bengali year.
