Government employees at the Secretariat announced they will continue protests on Tuesday, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. They also called on government staff across the country to stage similar demonstrations in solidarity.
Monday’s protest marked the third consecutive day of demonstrations on the Secretariat premises. The movement is now being carried out under the banner of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers Employees Oikya Forum.
Earlier, Monday’s programme was temporarily postponed due to a scheduled meeting with the Law Adviser, which was later cancelled.
Led by Md Badiul Kabir and Nizam Uddin Ahmed from the Coordinated Council, the protests began around 10:45 am. Another faction, led by Md Nurul Islam and Mujahidul Islam, joined shortly after.
Participants chanted slogans such as “Illegal black law must be repealed,” “We reject this law,” and “Unite and resist – 18 lakh employees.” Protesters abandoned their workstations to join the demonstrations.
The ordinance, issued by the President on Sunday evening, permits dismissal of public servants for specific disciplinary violations through a show-cause notice—bypassing formal proceedings.
Employees have slammed the law as unjust and unconstitutional. All Secretariat staff unions have pledged to continue their movement until the ordinance is repealed.
