Leaders of the Bangladesh Secretariat Staff Association convened an urgent meeting following the submission of a nine-point demand to the Cabinet Secretary. The meeting was chaired by the association’s president, Md. Badiul Kabir, and conducted by acting general secretary Nizam Uddin Ahmed.
In light of the demands presented by the Secretariat staff, the Cabinet Division has recently sent letters to the Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Finance, considering the rationale behind the requests. Key demands include the preservation of various category positions for non-cadre feeder staff, changes in job titles, the formation of a new pay commission, a 50% hardship allowance, full pensions, and a 400% gratuity benefit. Additionally, they are calling for the introduction of ten salary grades instead of the current twenty and reasonable renaming of positions within the Secretariat’s central library. The demands also address issues related to employees wrongfully dismissed or forcibly retired during the previous government, reports media.
Moreover, the Cabinet Secretary has assured the leaders that representatives from the Secretariat Staff Association will be included in the forthcoming pay commission. He indicated that a formal communication would be sent to confirm the inclusion of representatives in the new pay commission.
The meeting was attended by a large number of officials from various ministries and departments, along with the association’s former general secretary and current chief advisor, Md. Toyaha.
