When the anti-discrimination students’ movement was going on, many artistes of showbiz came to the streets in support of the students.

Another group of artistes, who are known as Awami League supporters, were secretly plotting how to suppress this movement.

These artistes discussed their programmes on behalf of Sheikh Hasina in a WhatsApp group called ‘Alo Ashbei’. Some screenshots of that group were leaked on September 3, which created a lot of discussion.

It is known that A WhatsApp group named ‘Alo Ashbei’ was opened under the leadership of the then State Minister Information and Broadcasting Ministry Mohammad A Arafat and then Member of the Parliament Ferdous Ahmed to fight against the anti-discrimination students’ movement. In this group, pro-Awami artistes and journalists were involved.

In some screenshots of the WhatsApp group named ‘Alo Ashbei’, actresses Aruna Biswas, Tanvin Sweety, Jyotika Jyoti and Sohana Saba – all are very active there.

Their position was against the students’ movement. They gave total, be that as it may, the movement must stop.

Meanwhile, while responding to an information of Jyotika Jyoti, actress Aruna Biswas advised to pour hot water on the protesters.

Director Mostafa Sarwar Farooki was also criticised for making a Facebook post on behalf of the movement.
Sohana Saba, Jyotika Jyoti, Aruna Biswas, Ferdous, Riaz Ahmed, Suborna Mustafa, Azizul Hakim, Swagota, Badrul Anam Soud, Shomi Kaiser, Tanvin Sweety, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Shamima Islam Tusty, Jamshad Shamim, Urmila Srabonti Kar, Saju Khadem, Hridi Haq, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Deepanwita Martin, Symon Sadik, Zayed Khan, Liaquat Ali Lucky, Nuna Afroz, Rokeya Prachi, Rawnak Hasan, Ahsanul Haque Minu, Gulzar, SA Haque Alik and many others were in this group.

Actress Jyotika Jyoti has claimed to be in such a group. She told the media, “We had such a group, it’s true. On the day Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was set on fire, I wrote about this in that group. Because the fire service personnel were not allowed to go there to control the fire.

I feel bad that how people set fire to the hospital? There, my and your family members came to get treatment to save life. That day I did not blame the students for setting fire to the hospital.”

The actress also said, “I also want to say that there may be many of us in the WhatsApp group, but not everyone has the same mentality. The issue of pouring hot water on students is not an expected speech, it is inhumane. However, I have no right to say anything about other people’s thoughts.”
