“Scientific Innovations Should Reach Farmers Directly” – BAU VC

Bangladesh Agricultural University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan on Friday emphasised the importance of directly delivering scientific innovations to farmers during his speech at the 31st Scientific Conference of the Bangladesh Society for Veterinary Education and Research (BSVER).
“The innovations that are necessary for farmers should be delivered to them directly and as soon as possible, so they can use them to play a stronger role in the country’s development,” said Professor Dr. Bhuiyan.
He also highlighted how the livestock industry, production quality, and disease outbreaks are evolving alongside environmental changes. In addition, he noted the transformation in farmers’ skills and mindset, with many now incorporating technology into animal husbandry.
“The current situation has changed a lot from the image of farms and farmers four decades ago,” he added, stressing the need for veterinarians to focus on providing quality services, not just quantity.
The conference, which took place on Saturday, February 1, saw the participation of over 500 researchers, veterinarians, and students from 13 universities and 6 institutions across the country.
The event featured 90 oral research presentations and 162 poster presentations in 12 technical sessions. Dr. Md. Mostafiziur Rahman, retired Professor of Dept. of Microbiology and Hygiene gave annual lecture. The inaugural ceremony was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Alimul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University and President of the BSVER Executive Committee.
Keynote speeches were delivered by various experts, including BAU Vice Chancellor Professor Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, Director General of Department of Livestock services Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, and Managing Director of Inter Agro BD Ltd. Dr. AKM Khasruzzaman. Special guests included Professor Dr. Shah Monir Hossain, Team Lead of The Fleming Fund Country Grant to Bangladesh, DAI Global LLC, and Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at BAU.
