Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and advisor to the BNP chairperson, has called for the immediate resignation of controversial and partisan justices from the Supreme Court, including Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan.
Mahbub on Thursday also urged President Mohammed Shahabuddin to reopen the Supreme Court within the coming week, voicing these demands at a press conference at the Supreme Court Bar Association.
The barrister’s demands came in response to ongoing controversies surrounding the judiciary.
“The coordinators of the Students Against Discrimination movement have called for the resignation of all judges in the Appellate Division, including the chief justice,” Khokon stated. “We agree with this demand. They must resign by today. However, the judges who conducted the trial with honesty and courage, have no fear.”
The press conference was also attended by Supreme Court Bar Association Executive Members Shafiqul Islam and Fatima Akter.
