The Supreme Court Chamber Judge on Thursday stayed a High Court order that granted ad-interim bail to actress Shomi Kaiser, also former President of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh, e-CAB, in an attempt to murder case.
Justice Md Rezaul Haque, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, passed the order following a petition filed by the state seeking to stay the High Court order.
The apex court chamber judge also sent the state’s petition to its full bench for hearing the matter on January 6 next year.
Shomi Kaiser cannot get released from the jail following the Appellate Court Chamber judge’s order, her lawyer Hamidul Misbah told the media.
On December 10, the High Court granted three months’ ad-interim bail to Shomi Kaiser, who was arrested on November 6, and also issued a rule asking the state to explain why she should not be granted regular bail in the case.
One Ishtiaq Mahmud has filed the case with Uttara East Police Station against Shomi and several others on charge of attempt to kill him during the student protests of July-August, lawyer Hamidul Misbah said.
Deputy Attorney General Md Jahirul Islam Sumon represented the state during hearing.
