The Supreme Court’s Legal Aid program has extended vital legal services to a total of 28,611 individuals at no cost to them, according to a report released by the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).

The report, covering the period from 2009 to January 2025, underscores the significant impact of the program in ensuring that financially disadvantaged individuals have access to legal support and justice. The initiative, officially launched on September 8, 2015, has been a beacon of hope for many underprivileged citizens who might otherwise be unable to afford legal representation.

Out of the 28,611 people served, 25,366 individuals received legal advice, while 3,245 cases were granted full legal aid. Notably, 2,282 cases were successfully settled, showcasing the program’s effectiveness in resolving legal disputes.

The Supreme Court Legal Aid program operates under the ‘Legal Aid Act,’ which ensures that those who are indigent and incapable of handling legal expenses can still seek justice through government-funded assistance. The National Legal Aid Services Organization, a key component of the program, functions under the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to upholding the principles of justice, fairness, and equality, offering vital legal resources to those who might otherwise be left without representation in the legal system.
