UNB, Dhaka :
A Supreme Court lawyer has submitted a memorandum to the President and the Prime Minister seeking the removal of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan for ‘supporting the countrywide transport strike’.
Eunus Ali Akand sent the memorandum to Bangabhaban and the Prime Minister’s Office through registered post on Wednesday.
In his memorandum, the lawyer mentioned that Shajahan Khan is holding the post of shipping minister as well as that of president of Bangladesh Road
Transport Workers’ Federation. According to reports published in different newspapers on Wednesday, the minister supported the transport strike, he said.
Eunus also said he instigated the transport workers to enforce the strike protesting court verdicts which is tantamount to contempt of court. “With this, he’s also violated the oath of office as a minister.”
As per Section 7 (A) of the Constitution, the statement of the shipping minister is unconstitutional and tantamount to treachery, he mentioned in the memorandum. Besides, holding two posts at a time is illegal and beyond the legal authority, the lawyer said, adding, “A minister can in no way take stance in favour of transport workers going against the government. For this, he has no right to hold minister post.”
