Solo photography exhibition titled Save The River Buriganga by
photographer and also photojournalist Fojit Sheikh Babu is being held at
Galerie Zoom of the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (AFD) in the city’s Dhanmondi area now.
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Prof Anisuzzaman, Professor Emeritus, University of Dhaka, eminent artist Shahabuddin Ahmed, Golam Dastagir Gazi, Bir Protik, MP and Prof Dr Abdul Mannan Choudhury,
Vice-Chancellor of World University of Bangladesh.
The environment and ecology of Bangladesh facing adverse effects of the disaster by global warming and climate change in other countries around the world. Most of the rivers of riverine Bangladesh are in a lost because of
the hostile environment. Global geopolitics and built river-based unplanned industry is one of the main reasons of polluting rivers.
Polluted river is extreme threat to the natural environment and the ecology. The river being polluted behind us
constantly, as a result is lost of living creatures. Dhaka city founded about four hundred years ago on the banks of the Buriganga, since it was the life of Dhaka city. The extreme pollution River Buriganga is due to unplanned
industrialisation, a lack of public awareness and illegal occupation of the river banks. But we can save the river if
a little concerned are still in.
Fojit Sheikh Babu is basically a photo journalist, as well as an environmentally conscious. He is trying to create public awareness through the photography exhibition. He already had three
photography exhibitions with the same topic. Save the River Buriganga is his fifth solo photography exhibition which aims at creating public awareness in order to prevent illegal occupation and pollution of the River Buriganga.
The exhibition will continue till December 24. n
