BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called the political parties to stay united and do not create divisions for the sake of saving the country.
“I don’t even understand the PR (Proportional Representation) system myself. Save the country, don’t create division. There will be no election without a referendum and PR. Those who are making such demands and holding rallies want to sabotage the election,” Mirza Fakhrul said these on Wednesday at a public meeting held at the Gopalpur School ground in Goreya Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “It’s my vote – I will give it to whomever I please. We do not want to create division. The person the people vote for will be elected. Don’t create rifts, don’t harm the country.”
He added, “We want to see a democratic Bangladesh. We want to live in harmony and brotherhood. I haven’t left you. Don’t forget – our symbol is the paddy sheaf.”
The BNP Secretary General further said, “Debates over PR will take place in Parliament. The points that all parties agree upon will be signed in the July Accord.
For the rest, there will be a referendum. Please resolve the instability through the election. We don’t want politics of hatred. We don’t want Hindu-Muslim division. We want to live in peace, all together.”
Mirza Fakhrul also said, “We have been in government before – we know how to run it. If BNP is elected, employment will be created for 10 million people. Every family will be given a family card. The health and education sectors will be prioritized. Farmers will receive the most attention.”
At the event, BNP district General Secretary Paigam Ali, municipal President Shariful Islam, Sadar Upazila General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Tuhin, and other party leaders and activists were present.
