Savar will be uppgraded city: Adviser Asif Mahmud

Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has said Savar merged with Ashulia will be elevated to a city corporation, while Keraniganj will be upgraded to a ‘Class A’ municipality.
He said this in a Facebook post on Tuesday. He wrote, “The government has taken a policy decision to merge Savar Municipality and Ashulia Union into Savar City Corporation and to upgrade Keraniganj as a ‘Class A’ municipality, under the jurisdiction of South City Corporation.”

Savar is an Upazila in Dhaka district, and Ashulia is a union within Savar, reports bdnews24.com.
If approved, Savar will become the country’s 13th city corporation, joining Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur, Cumilla, Gazipur, Mymensingh, and Narayanganj.

Bangladesh currently has 330 municipalities. With Keraniganj’s upgrade, the total will rise to 331.
