Sylhet Bureau :
The students of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) have once again started protesting for the implementation of 4-point demand of students regarding banning of politics. They gave an ultimatum to start the class-examination by tomorrow, banning politics.
The human chain was held on the main road of the university on Sunday (August 18) after the four-point demands of the students were not met. More than one and a half hundred students participated in the human chain. At that time, the students warned and said, “We have given a 72-hour ultimatum earlier for the four-point demand. Later, the authorities did not consider it necessary to accept the ultimatums of 24 hours. Due to which, we, the common students, once again went to the field to protest.”
The students also said that last night about 50 motorbikes from outsiders threatened the common students in front of the residence hall, the university administration failed to protect them. If the university administration cannot provide security to the students then we will ensure our security.
At that time, the students gave an ultimatum and said that by tomorrow i.e. August 19, the class-examination of the students should be confirmed by any means. Otherwise, students will be in the field to demand tomorrow by locking all the faculties of the university.”
Besides, they rejected the coordinators in the campus and said that no anti-quota movement was formed in the campus during the quota movement. We reject those who are currently claiming to be their coordinators.
At that time, acting vice-chancellor of the university and convener of the Dean’s Council, Professor Dr. Md. Siddiqul Islam attended and said, “There is currently no environment to start the class examination as various administrative posts are vacant in the university. However, I will present your demands along with all the deans. If possible, based on their opinion, try to start the class examination immediately. I will.”
Besides, when asked about the critical notice published on the university’s website, he avoided saying that he was not aware of it.
Before this, the four-point demands given by the students are – all members, including teachers, students, officials, and employees, should be banned from all kinds of party and labor political activities in the university premises; Academic activities must commence within the next 72 hours; For failing to provide overall security in the university premises and residential halls, the Proctoral Body including the Vice-Chancellor and the Hall Provosts of all the halls should resign and immediately ensure the overall security of the campus; So far, the various crimes (threats, political pressure, beatings) organised against the students should be investigated and all should be brought to justice and those who are not students should be expelled from the hall immediately.
